I have to admit that I am not immune to all the scams that happen on the Internet. Back in March of 2010 I discovered yet another website on blogging: Problogger.net.
According to their website: “Problogger.net is where bloggers worldwide go for advice and information on enhancing their blog’s presence. Whether you’re just starting out or have been blogging for years, these two professional bloggers show you how to turn your passion for blogging into extra revenue. This practical guide to creating and marketing a blog with the potential for generating a six-figure income shows you how to choose subject matter that works for you, handle technical issues, and evaluate your blog’s success so that you can use your blog to generate income indirectly.”
I usually am reluctant to recommend literature that promises the safe path to riches, but I did check out Darren Rowse’s web site, and everything I saw made sense. His book, ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income, is a compilation of his blog entries. I liked the section where he explains that only 1% of bloggers will be able to reach a six-figure income. He has reached the level where he currently is with hard work and perseverance. Whether or not his advise makes you rich is entirely up to you.
Initially I thought that reading this book was worth the money and time, but in the meantime I have changed my opinion about 180 degrees. Yes, his advice on blogging is solid, but he fails miserably when it comes to recommending income resources. First of all, the Google Adsense Getting-Rich System does not work as he claims – at least not for the blog starter. My blog experiences increasing web traffic (150,000+ hits in May), but after fifteen months of hard work the monthly income through Google ads does not even fill the tank of my car.
I also followed the advice to apply at other affiliate programs such as Text Link Ads (they rejected me the next day) or Chitika.
The response from Chitika – four weeks after I applied- was especially interesting:
“We would like to apologize for the delay in your Chitika application review for account. As we prepare to transition to a new upgraded version of Chitika, we are temporarily holding off on approving new domains and accounts. Note: We are currently running an exclusive beta test on the new upgraded Chitika ads for large/ComScore 500 domains. If you are earning more than $10,000 USD per month from advertising on your domain (with AdSense, direct advertisers, etc.), please send us an email, or give us a call to speak with a Chitika team member.”
I guess this proves the point that only the rich are getting richer…

Hi again.
The amount of traffic that you get does not determine your income. It helps to have huge traffic but targeted traffic that is less in number is much better.
One of my sites has an Alexa rank of 171,835 and gets less traffic than your site if you are receiving 150,000 hits in 30 days. Your site is ranked at 1,556,456 at the time of this writing.
I can not give you the exact hits that my site receives in a 30 day period because the tracking site that I use is down for maintenance today and I do not ever record the hit count. I only record Alexa and Google Rankings.
I have only taken over admin of the site since June of 2009 and added Adsense, Chitika, and Kontera in January of 2010.
The AdSense has only accumulated about $100.00, Kontera about $35.00, and Chitika about $200.00 so far.
The site could do better if I changed a few things to be more about these advertising venues. If I was going to sell the site then I would make those changes.
Have you tried Chitika again? They were not active for a little over a week because they were making some internal changes and they were checking all of their publishers. I like them better than AdSense.
The site that I am referring to is making more from affiliate sales than from the Ads, but the Ads pay for hosting and other things.
There is a blogger online that tracks the differences in Ad revenue by comparing what each different program does on various blogs. I cannot recall the name or the site at this moment and really do want to find his blog again.
He is making a living from blogs and reports his monthly income online as part of his blogging journal.
I will attempt to find his blog again and give you the name of it if I can. Feel free to email me at the email that I posted and I will try to help you locate this blogger.
He is making much more than I am from Ad revenue. I do better at affiliate marketing.
He left a comment on one of my sites and I will have to trace it down to locate the name and blog.
He does not use Kontera but he does use a similar text Ad.
One thing that you may want to consider to raise your ranking would be to be less creative in your titles, and try to concentrate on sought after keywords. If you can implement keywords that are being used by searchers into your titles without taking away from the meaning it will bring more traffic just from organic searches.
I do not always do this but many times I will Google the keywords and titles I have in mind before I publish. I also check the keywords in Google’s keyword tool to see how many searches there are in a 30 day time period and how much competition there is for the keywords in question.
In this way I can boost my traffic to each particular post. It usually works.
Anyway, I will try to locate this blogger that is making a living at blogging and telling everyone on one of his blogs how he is doing it for free.
Send me an email to remind me if you are interested.
