The Ayurvedic Healer is the story of Madhavan Nabmboothiri and Ayurveda, the medical science of India.

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian Medical Treatment System. Ayurveda has been described in numerous books. The ancient books on Theology and Ayurveda are written in the classic language of Sanskrit. For studying Ayurveda a sound knowledge in Sanskrit is essential.

Ayurveda has great connections with Vedas, the texts on Indian Theology. In Susrutham, the book which was written by Susrutha, it is said that ‘Duration of life’ (Ayuss) situate in this, so you get long ‘Duration of Life’ by reading it.  In ‘Charaka’ it is said that by reading Ayurveda you get knowledge in ‘Duration of Life’ (Ayuss).

Ayurveda is a minor-limb of Adharva Veda. It is considered that all the Vedas depend on Ayurveda, and so it can be thought over as the ‘Fifth Veda’. In all the Vedas the Ayurveda is included.  As all other Vedas Ayurveda, too, is smooth and eternal.

By reading practicing of the Ayurveda, a person becomes perfect and good. Madhavan Namboothiri, the protagonist of the novel ‘The Ayurvedic Healer’ is a good example for the above said qualities.  He is an earnest believer in the science of Ayurveda.  When other persons like hid lead wanton life by keeping several girls belonging to Soodra Community he saves himself away from such lifestyle and becomes a celibate.  He concentrates his soul in the learning of Sanskrit and following it ‘Ayurveda’.  He develops into a learned man in the Medical Science.  He begins to treat patients who approach him. He is not reluctant in treating bedridden persons by going to their residing places. He helps financially the patients who are in poverty.

His name becomes famous as a blessed Healer. Even from distant places, people come for his help. He views all his patients belonging to any community or caste as equal to him.

He behaves compassionately to them.  He is a devotee in Ayurveda.  He never thought of quitting out of his living style.  But when a female person enters into his life, all are turning upside down.  He is forced to become another man.  He sinks up to his neck in worldly pleasures.  Despite his wife lives for him, none of the others give him peace.  He is driven into a pit from which coming out is very difficult. And the pit is made by himself.
