Vampire Ascending - A Novel by Lorelei Bell

December 23 ~ Seasons Greetings from Sabrina Strong

I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by! It seems that Thanksgiving was just here and now Christmas! And this Christmas will be more interesting for me than any I’ve ever had my whole life!

I just got a text from Heath Sufferden. He told me there was a Christmas party tonight, hosted by Tremayne at his new headquarters. I’m invited, but Vasyl has forbidden me. Since we’re now a couple I have to obey his wishes. Figures. The first office party I’m invited to and I can’t attend. But then, we’re talking vampires here. I can’t imagine how vampires celebrate Christmas. Of course, vampires party all the time, so I suppose they will have some extravagant way of doing a Christmas party. There will probably be a live band—either a popular vampire band, or a Goth one. Goths are rather in demand by vampires—for obvious reasons. I imagine that their blood dolls (and dons?), would be dressed in red, maybe trimmed in white fur. There’d be real Bloody Marys, the kind in a glass and the kind that walk. I suppose they would have games too. Maybe blind folding one vampire and he stands in a circle of blood dolls. The decorations would be in their favorite color—red. I’m not sure who would be under the Christmas tree… snark-snark

But then I’m not sure what will happen with the unsuspecting humans on the street. Right now the vampires are legal to hunt and boy do they have a huge selection what with people coming out in droves Christmas shopping. The vampires are shopping as well, and that worries me. I might be busier than I at first thought this season, and not in the way you think.

I have been given a nice tree that Hobart cut and brought to me. Quist and Fritz came by and we all decorated it, had hot cocoa and had a small party. I made caramel corn and cookies. The guys dove on those. So glad to have a few semi-humans to help me celebrate the season. Hobart is a werewolf, of course. And Quist is part elf. Fritz I guess is just Fritz.

Vasyl has been quite morose at this time. I presume it is because he can’t go into a church and celebrate, and be surrounded by the entrapments of the season. He was away for lengths of time as well, this whole week. I actually barely saw him except when he arose. Then last night he asked me how many acres of land I had here. I told him five. It’s actually five point one. His face lit up and he said he’d be back later, and disappeared… vampires. I’m about to present him to my family. Oh, you don’t know. How could you? We’ve been engaged. This will get too interesting, I’m sure. And it isn’t because Vasyl is French either. It’s because my family doesn’t know he’s a vampire. They also don’t know, or believe that they exist.

Like I said, this will be one interesting Christmas…

Have a Happy Jolly One!
