Ronnie Massey is the author of Crimson Dawn – Book One of the Darklife Saga.

Whether it’s on the silver screen, tv screen, or in the pages of a book, vampire driven media has generated over 10 billion dollars since the first Twilight movie hit theaters in 2008.  When Anne Rice first burst onto the scene with Interview with a Vampire in 1976, there were only 1,000 vampire themed books published.  Since then, there have been over 41,000.  My novel, Crimson Dawn: Darklife Saga, is among the throng of vampire novels that now grace bookshelves and e-readers, everywhere.  From True Blood, to The Vampire Diaries, and countless other book series, there’s no doubt that vampires rule when it comes to commanding people’s attention.

With so many vampire themed titles popping up everywhere, to some it seems like the blood suckers are hogging the spotlight, but other paranormal and supernatural beings are vying for their time in the spotlight.  The Percy Jackson series of books and movies, along with the Clash of the Titans series are picking up where Xena and Hercules left off, and bringing Greek Mythology back onto the scene.   Where a few have tried and failed, Red Riding Hood and The Wolfman, *Cough-Cough*, The Underworld series and Teen Wolf, have made sure popularity of werewolves does not wane.  Yup, there isn’t a lack of non-human protagonist on the silver screen.

As for literature, Faeries are becoming a force to be reckoned with.  YA series such as Wicked Lovely, The Modern Faerie Tales, and Iron Fae, by Melissa Marr, Holly Black, and Julie Kagawa, respectively, are wildly popular with young readers.  I have read the works of Marr and Kagawa, and love them both.  On the adult front, Laurell K. Hamilton’s, Meredith Gentry Series, is a wonderful Fae driven series.  It was my first introduction to the Sidhe, of Celtic Mythology and I have been hooked ever since.  But for all the vampire and fae fanatics out there, there is one other group that’s inching its way towards the head of the pack, and that’s angels.

With the coming of Cassandra Clare’s, Mortal Instrument Series, angels and the half-human, half-angel, nephilim, are becoming  topic of choice with many authors.  Since City of Bones, the first book in Clare’s series was published in 2007, there have been over sixty books published that feature the heavenly creatures.  And that’s just in the YA market.  On May 3rd, UnBound: Battle of the Half-Angels, my second Copperhill Media novel, was added to the list.

UnBound: Battle of the Half-Angels, is the first title in my Nephillim Chronicles.  It introduces readers to four of the series main protagonists: Justin, the son of the Archangel Michael, Theo, The son of the Archangel Uriel, Nathanael, Son of Archangel Gabriel, and Gloria Reyes, daughter of Lucifer.

Born of angels and humans, nephillim have all the strengths of their heavenly parent, but because they are half-human, they have free will.  Where angels are bound by countless rules that keep them from turning their powers against humans, nephillim don’t have the same constraints.

In olden days, Lucifer, the Fallen, and their offspring wreaked havoc upon the world.  So much so that Jehovah decided to cleanse the world with a flood.  Since the time of the Great Flood, any remaining nephillim were ordered bound, stripped of their powers.  And it has remained so for thousands of years.  Any nephillim born after that time, have no idea of their true heritage and what they are capable of.

Along with the binding of the nephillim, a delicate treaty between Heaven and Hell, Light and Dark, was forged.  Both sides would refrain from making themselves known to mankind.  They would move unseen among the world, fighting one another in an invisible battle for human souls.  UnBound finds the unseen battle between Heaven and Hell, coming to a turning point, one that is not in favor of the Light.  When left with no other option, the Light decides to allow all nephillim unbound.

My story begins with the Archangel Michael, pleading his case for retaliation against the Dark, to a higher authority.   It follows the unbinding of the four nephillim, and how they handle learning the truth about their parentage.  There are treks through the past, and journeys across the globe as the nephillim come into their own.  And what would a story be without a little action.  The newly unbound nephillim, barely have time to process that fact that they aren’t human, before they’re thrown into the war between Heaven and Hell.

UnBound, isn’t bogged down with a romantic sub-plot like other titles in the YA fantasy genre, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t one in the works.  By the end of the story there are hints of a romance in the making; a romance that will be further explored in the second novel, Fractured Souls.  But for the first foray into the world of my nephillim, I was focused on establishing the characters and the roles that they would have to play for the Light.

I’ve listed the first chapter of UnBound: Battle of the Half-Angels, in a previous post titled Fangs and Feathers.  If you’d like to get a glimpse, be sure to check out the post.  Both UnBound and Crimson Dawn, are available in e-book format and paperback, from Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and other places that books are sold.  You can also find e-book versions of the novels on Smashwords.

The Nephillim Chronicles – Book One
by Ronnie Massey

Justin and Theo are just normal teenagers with their teenage problems, until the day they meet their biological fathers, Michael and Uriel, two of the few remaining archangels. They learn, they are nephillim, the half human offspring of angels, and they learn they are not the only ones. In the days of old, nephillim walked the earth. Now heaven’s misfits may be all that stands between mankind and the wrath of Lucifer and the Fallen. But how will a handful of teenagers react when they find out, not only are they not human, but they are the most powerful soldiers in heaven’s army? How will they deal with their newly found powers? And will they be able to stop Lucifer?
