Within your income bracket, there is a typical range for charitable donations. Perhaps you exceed the standard on on occasion; however, it is never wise to embellish these or any other type of deduction.

4. When filing taxes, it goes to say that both state and federal tax forms must be sent. Make sure your numbers match. If one forms states information that contrasts the other, the IRS will catch this error and investigate the cause – it’s just that simple. This is another reason to emphasize that rounding your numbers, as reasonable as it may sound, is never a good practice.

5. One quick way to land yourself in some hot water, whether accidental or on purpose, is to efile your taxes without the assistance of tax software, or to hire a professional accountant. Seeking the expertise of an accountant will ensure that everything is filed properly and if any issues arise, that they are addressed accordingly.
